Rolling the climate dice
Article Abstract:
The contrasting results of studies on climatic changes and atmospheric greenhouse gases affect the manner by which international agreements on these environmental issues are addressed. The two most prominent environmental conferences getting the much needed attention of environment policy makers are the Framework Convention on Climate Change signed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the International Conference of the Parties to the Climate Convention in Kyoto, Japan. However, there is still a need for the creation of a comprehensive plan for these environmental concerns.

Prediction and mitigation of flash floods
Article Abstract:
The American Meteorological Society's policy statement on flash floods is presented. Flash floods are the leading cause of death for natural disasters in the US. Damage from flash floods is tremendous as well as the loss of lives in spite of the recent advances in flood control. An increasing amount of people are developing flood plains for recreation, thus more people are exposed to the hazards of floods. As such research into the origins of flash floods must be conducted, models with spatially distributed structure and parameters are needed to predict flooding.
