Structural signature of tectonic processes in the Calabrian Arc, southern Italy: evidence from the oceanic-derived Diamante-Terranova unit

Article Abstract:

Three major tectonic phases appear to be responsible for the deformation history of the oceanic-derived tectonic Diamante-Terranova unit in the pile of northern Calabrian nappes. The first process is the deformation of the oceanic lithosphere related to the formation of a deep-seated shear region. The second phase, involving ductile features, initiated shear deformation caused by the northeastward motion of the upper plate with respect to the lower plate. The third phase was during the opening up of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and is characterized by brittle features cross-cutting the ductile features.

Flexural uplift of rift flanks in central Greece

Article Abstract:

Uplifts flank three major grabens in central Greece. The geological background of the Aegean region and conceptual models used in rift flank uplift simulation are summarized. A data analysis procedure is outlined and is modeled using elastic and viscoelastic broken plate models. The elastic predictive modeling was found to fit well with observed flexural wavelengths and flanking seismicity, although it does not predict graben widths and inferred elastic layer thickness.
