Tectonic implications of out-of-sequence faults in an accretionary prism, Prince William Sound, Alaska

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine out-of-sequence faults separating three belts of Prince William Sound terranes. The Chugach and Prince William terranes present a formation covering Mesozoic through Tertiary periods and lining the Gulf of Alaska. Its belts have alternately higher and lower deformation intensity and metamorphism. Previous findings depict the Prince William terrane as accreted to Chugach along the Contact fault. However, evidence from current studies show that both terranes were part of an accretionary prism which is considered a single terrane.

Superimposed tectonics of the Cyprus ophiolitic massifs

Article Abstract:

The kinematics of the brittle deformation in the ophiolites is analyzed. Structures in the Cyprus ophiolites result from a complex polyphase tectonic history, and there is a relative chronology of three main deformational events. The oldest one is coeval with the magmatic emplacement of the ophiolite, and is characterized by a ESE-WNW extension. The most recent event occurred during the late Neogene, and is characterized by a N-S striking extension.
