The Indian monsoon and its variability
Article Abstract:
The satellite and conventional observations supporting an alternative hypothesis, which considers the monsoon as a manifestation of seasonal migration of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), are discussed. Special features of the Bay of Bengal and the monsoon brought out by observations during a national observational experiment in 1999 are also briefly described.

Recognizing mantle plumes in the geological record
Article Abstract:
A Mantle plume, which is recognized by the domal uplift, triple junction rifting and the presence of a large igneous province (LIP) in the Proterozoic by the exposed plumbing system of dykes is argued. The ways in which the mantle plumes in the geological record can be recognized are described.
