Metasomatism and fluid flow in ductile fault zones

Article Abstract:

The metasomatism of fluid flow within a regionally extensive and homogeneous lithology is investigated. Results show that the metasomatism in amphibolite facies ductile faults does not require infiltration of chemically exotic fluids. However, it is the consequence of metamorphic fluid flow through rocks along temperature gradients under near-equilibrium conditions. Therefore, rocks in ductile fault zones are more permeable during metasomatism.

Stable isotope evidence for regional-scale fluid migration in a Barrovian metamorphic terrane, Vermont, USA

Article Abstract:

An analysis of isotopic evidence for fluid movements in during metamorphism is presented. Measurements of C- and O-isotopic compositions of carbonate mineralsfound in the Waits River Formation along eastern Vermont were done to examine the level of fluid infiltration in the Barrovian terrane. It is shown that isotopic evidence exists for regional hydrothermal activity along antiforms andfluid movements around plutons.
