Trace element signatures in otoliths record natal river of juvenile American shad (Alosa sapidissima)
Article Abstract:
Trace element signatures can be found in otoliths to give an indication of the natal river of juvenile American shad (Alosa sapidissima), based on studies done using samples from the Connecticut, Delaware and Hudson rivers. A permanent record of environmental conditions may be found in the fish otoliths, which reflect physical and chemical characteristics of the ambient water. This can be used to accurately determine a river of origin for fish.

Lipid metabolism of the Antarctic euphausiid Thysanoessa macrura and its ecological implications
Article Abstract:
The article concentrates on the seasonal and ontogenetic biochemical characteristics of Antarctic zooplancton Thysanoessa macrura (T. macrura). The importance of T. macrura in the food web, its seasonal reproductive activity and accumulation of extensive amounts of lipid as wax esters are discussed.
