Trough structures in the Western syenite of Kungnat, S Greenland: mineralogy and mechanism of formation

Article Abstract:

The sequence of events that generated the formation of the Western layered syenite stock of the Kungrat complex of the Mid-Proterozoic Gardar province of S Greenland was analyzed based on the characterization of the troughs. The syenitic rocks of the Kungrat complex were composed of a lower and an upper group of infilled troughs. The troughs were composed of highly melanocratic materials compared to the surrounding syenitic rocks. Furthermore, a series of regularly spaced streams was formed by the descending slurry which eroded the trough shaped channels.

Garnet-bearing ultramafic rocks from the Erzgebirge, and their relation to other settings in the Bohemian Massif

Article Abstract:

The Erzgebirge Crystalline Complex (ECC) in the Bohemian Massif within the European Variscan belt is composed of garnet-bearing ultramafic rocks that are enclosed by high-grade gneisses. The garnet-bearing ultramafic rocks were formed by a spinel/garnet peridotite transition that took place in the crustal region. Furthermore, the crustal eclogites of the ECC tectonic unit was genetically linked with the other complexes of the Bohemian Massif.
