Wollastonite at Nuliyam, Kerala, southern India: a reassessment of CO2- infiltration and charnockite formation at a classic locality

Article Abstract:

The charnockitised felsic gneiss near a marble/ calc-silicate horizon at Nuliyam, Kerala, India, has been formed by dehydration of crustal rocks due to advective infiltration of CO2-rich fluids from carbonate source. Limited replacement of wollastonite by calcite+quartz symplectites and mosaics yields textural observations conforming to late fluid infiltration into thecalc-silicate. This shows that Nuliyam charnockite/calc-silicate is a structural trap in a metamorphic setting instead of a site with charnockite formed from local fluid sources.

The application of single zircon evaporation and model Nd ages to the interpretation of polymetamorphic terrains: an example from the Proterozoic mobile belt of south India

Article Abstract:

New model Nd ages and single crystal zircon ages from the Proterozoic mobile belt of south India were integrated to determine crustal growth provinces, discern the chronology of its polymetamorphic history and delineate the extent and character of the pan-African orogeny. Results showed a mixed provenance rather than a discret period of crystal growth. Also, all tectonic units of the Proterozoic mobile belt of South India shared the same metamorphic history from the early Paleozoic.

Metamorphic charnockite in contact aureoles around intrusive enderbite from Natal, South Africa

Article Abstract:

The metamorphism of country rock to charnockitic aureole is examined, focusing on how dehydration may have influenced the metamorphism. Topics include anhydrous intrusions fostering dehydration, metamorphic fluid salinity within contact zones, and use of thermobarometry techiniques to measure mineral temperatures.
