Article Abstract:
The presence of the United States fleet off Lebanon should serve as a deterrent to Syria. If United States reconnaissance planes are fired on from Syrian positions, the fleet will return fire. The Reagan Administration says that the decision to use aircraft, 5-inch or 16-inch guns is left to military commanders.
