Several topics were discussed during the 14th US-Assn of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Dialogue from May 23-23, 1998 in Manila, Philippines. These include the role of international financial institutions in resolving the Asian economic crisis; ASEAN's commitment regional economic cooperation and liberalization, efforts to controlling the growth of greenhouse emissions and developments in Cambodia and the Korean Peninsula.

World palm oil market under freer trade: implications for Malaysia
Article Abstract:
The impact of vegetable oil trade liberalization under World Trade Organization rules on Malaysia are studied. Results show that the Malaysian vegetable oil industry would benefit from trade liberalization. However, these benefits could be undermined by factors such as increasing farm production costs and environmental concerns. Policy implications for Malaysia are also discussed.
