The Christmas gift season brings the fragrance industry most of its sales, but the industry hopes that advertising will help sales during other seasons. Young women continue to be targeted, although they make up a smaller percentage of consumers in the UK because of lower birth rates.

Advertising expenditure in women's bodycare products in the U.K grew by 41% for skincare products and 7% for bath toiletries from 1996 to 2000. Leading advertisers were Johnson and Johnson's Nivea, Atrixo, Crookes and Lever Faberge's Vaseline Intensive care.
