After the Fall
Article Abstract:
The private bank Schroder, Munchmeyer, Hengst, (SMH), placed a third of its assets with the founder and chairman of IBH Holdings, Horst-Dieter Esch. When SMH was rescued, its net worth after the risk involvement was considerably lowered. The image of Luxembourg as a financial center has suffered as a result of the SMH affair. IBH is presently involved in salvaging its operations. France and Great Britain will see unemployment from the loss of IBH jobs.

Turkish clothing in Amsterdam: the rise and fall of a perfectly competitive labour market
Article Abstract:
The Turkish fashion industry is growing significantly, particularly in an informal sector which was tolerated by the authorities and has enticed many illegal migrant workers, while the Dutch textile industry is rapidly declining. It is, therefore, concluded that there is strong competition in the labour market. Moreover, results of a study indicate that the market gain has been eliminated by changes in Dutch policy and the international scene.

And If One Should Accidentally Fall
Article Abstract:
The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) is in danger of losing one of its five collaborative industrial development projects. The Thai government is re-evaluating the economic feasibility of a soda-ash plant. Industrial projects were chosen in fields where no big competitors existed. The first jointly owned operation, a urea plant in Sumatra, opened in November. Singapore is a reluctant participant in the association.
