After the Milk Mountain, Can the Summit Be Reached?
Article Abstract:
Provisional agreements have been reached at the Brussels European Economic Community (EEC) summit for a milk reduction policy and a formula for discontinuing monetary compensation amounts (MCAs), an agricultural subsidy system. Details of both these agreements are given. Unlike the agricultural ministers, the foreign ministers have been unable to achieve progress on budgetary issues. The British have steadfastly refused to consider an increase in payments to the EEC revenues, unless limits on member payments are instituted. A compromise in the form of a rebate appears to be gaining favor.

The Stony Farm Path to the Summit
Article Abstract:
Reform of the European Economic Community's (EEC) Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is a top priority of the Brussels summit in March. A reduction in surplus milk production and elimination of monetary compensation amounts (MCAs) for farmers are two goals of the reformers. The British oppose any agreement which increases the cost of CAP. Prime Minister Thatcher is committed to a ceiling being placed on Britain's contribution to the EEC budget. The reform proposals have not been thoroughly researched and if implemented, may cost the EEC more in the end than the present systems.

Marx and Malthusianism: Marx's Secular Path of Wages
Article Abstract:
Marx' growth model is extended to consider population growth and the prevention of falling wages. A wage equal to the known value of labor power is consistent with population growth. With labor demand increasing, a downward pressure on wages results from population growth. Marx failed to recognize population control.
