Physician financial incentives and cesarean section delivery
Article Abstract:
The induced-demand model is examined using data on normal and cesarean childbirth in the US from 1970 to 1982. This model focuses on the tendency of obstetricians and gynecologists to provide unnecessary medical care in the light of a possible decrease in income. Statistical analysis showed a link between decrease in pregnancy and increase in cesarean delivery. Apparently, physicians shifted to a form of delivery wherein they are better compensated.
