Capital income taxation and welfare in a small open economy
Article Abstract:
The welfare effects of various capital tax instruments in a small open economy are studied. The small economy is composed of infinitely-lived households with endogenous time preference rates. Investments are also subject to adjustment costs. Results show the existence of a welfare paradox, wherein increased taxes improve welfare. Tax instruments create a gap between the marginal productivity of domestic capital and the world interest rate. Thus, policies that bridge the gap improve welfare.

Victorian Values
Article Abstract:
The British Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) may have to alter its 1980 guidelines concerning girls under the age of sixteen and contraceptives. The 1980 guidelines allow doctors to supply contraceptives without parents' knowledge if circumstances warrant the action. A case now being waged against the DHSS and gaining support would prevent under sixteen-year-old girls from receiving contraceptives from NHS doctors without parental knowledge.
