Central Europe looks west
Article Abstract:
Economies in transition in Central Europe are working towards regional integration through membership in the European Union (EU). However, it is argued that joining the EU will not generate as much benefits for these countries as they expect. Excluding trade, flows of real resources from EU member states to Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are expected to be small. In addition, leveling the playing field with regard to Western economies does not really require EU membership.
