Article Abstract:
France will not curtail government spending. In order to keep a low central budget deficit and maintain planned expenditures the government is finding other sources, the consumer, to pay its bills. Research and development for the nationalized electronics industry, and gas supplies from Algeria to maintain diplomatic relations, will be paid for through telephone and gas bills to consumers.

Gabon Abolishes France
Article Abstract:
Gabon has banned all news of France from its media. The government is upset about a book published in France which contained scandals in Gabon. The Mitterand Administration refused to repress it.

France's socialist government seems to have been subdued by hard times and the discipline of government. Results of a three-day fall 1983 meeting are reviewed. Unity was the main goal.
