UK sales of luminaires, that is lights and light fittings, have stabilised since 1991 to total some 331 million pounds sterling in 1995, but this represents a fall in real terms. Sales of lamps, that is light bulbs and tubes, have risen slightly to 193 million units in 1995 vs some 190 million units in 1990, with the value of the market rising to only 112 million pounds sterling vs 110 million pounds. The domestic lighting market depends heavily on the UK housing market, which has been depressed during the early 1990s.
