EU agriculture, Agenda 2000 and the WTO commitments
Article Abstract:
The question of whether the goals of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform contained in Agenda 2000 comply with current World Trade Organization commitments are examined. Agenda 2000 was the European Commission's plans for budgetary arrangements which contained an agricultural chapter. Among the agricultural proposals of Agenda 2000 was a farm policy which was more market-oriented. The CAP itself should be reformed because it wastes resources, imposes financial burdens on consumers and is contrary to the environmental preservation of the countryside.

Integration of Central Europe in the common agricultural policy of the European Union
Article Abstract:
The integration of Central European countries (CEC) into the European Union's (EU) Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will likely be made on an individual country basis. However, agricultural production for some CEC may rise due to lower prices compared to prices during the EU's pre-enlargement period. Post-MacSharry CAP reforms with support prices near international levels are also likely to occur.
