European policing after 1992

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the nature of police cooperation for the EC and Western Europe. The study considers a network of established cooperation structures and applies such a framework to the larger institutional framework of the EC. It is shown that initiatives and institutional growth have been developed for police services in the studied regions. In addition, prospects for future developments in police cooperation need a consideration for the EC's nation state and political institutions.

Legislator shirking and voter monitoring: impacts of European parliament electoral systems upon legislator-voter relationships

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the effects of electoral systems on legislator-voter relationships in the EC. The study assumes that the EC offers a suitable setting because different electoral systems are applied in electing officials. Results show that electoral systems do exhibit an impact on legislator-voter behavior more than other variables. In addition, such systems also affect MEPs (Members of the European Parliament).
