Factor proportions and relative wages: the supply-side determinants of wage inequality

Article Abstract:

The growing trend in wage inequality is evident in the steady rise of the relative demand for skilled labor while outrunning increased labor supply. This underscores the need for evaluating the impact of changes in the labor supply on wage differentials and inequality. The effects of labor supply on relative wages in relation to the possibility of human capital investments in mitigating the rising inequality were also analyzed.

The negative Income Tax and the evolution of U.S. Welfare Policy

Article Abstract:

A review of Milton Friedman's proposal for a negative income tax is given, and an outline of its chief advantages is also given. In addition, two challenges to the central ideas of the negative income tax that appear in the academic literature, one having to do with labor supply effects of a negative income tax, and one to do with using work requirements to induce increased labor supply instead, are considered.

Central banks' tasks and their relationship to the state have been evolving, and there have been significant changes to bank structure starting in the 1980s. The steady progress towards wider independence and transparency of central banks and its effect on inflation is discussed.
