Food drinks
Article Abstract:
UK retail sales of food drinks fell by 3% in 1995 vs 1994, to 108 million pounds sterling, partly due to the impact of warmer weather on demand. The market is now dominated by instant products which are made simply by adding hot water: these now represent two thirds of all sales, at the expense of more traditional drinking chocolate and malted drinks. The longer-term outlook for the food drinks market may not be bright, since most consumers of food drinks are middle-aged. Younger consumers are tending to bypass hot drinks and stick to the soft drinks they enjoyed as children.

Ethnic food
Article Abstract:
Ethnic food has become increasingly popular in the United Kingdom despite the economic recession of the 1990's. Ethnic minorities have a tendency to work in the food and catering industry which has further influenced the trend towards foreign foods. Chinese, indian and Thai restaurants are particularly popular in Britain. A 65% growth rate is recorded for ethnic food sales between 1990 and 1995. The trend is expected to continue.
