Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia generates more than 25,000 tons per year of healthcare waste, says the Saudi Medical Journal. There are currently 314 general and specialized hospitals, with 45,729 beds in the kingdom. The Saudi Ministry of Health plans to boost bed capacity at its facilities alone to nearly 32,500 by mid-2003. As a result, the market for medical waste treatment equipment will grow 7-8%/year over the next 2-3 years, with spending on waste disposal plants projected at $17-20 mil/year.
