Higher education: some key issues

Australia has established the West Committee to address higher education policy and financing. This task includes reviewing the nation's effectiveness in meeting cultural, economic scientific and social needs, developing a policy structure that permits universities to be flexible in responding to changes, and identifying new options for financing such as Commonwealth funding.

Higher education in Australia and Britain: what lessons?

Article Abstract:

Australia's higher education funding policy provides a viable model for a similar program in the United Kingdom. University-set fees within a regulatory structure shift inefficient general subsidies to specific funding subsidies. This structure allows funds to be directed to areas were access is the most problematic. The fees are also flexible to permit competition.
