Industrial licensing, bribery and allocation efficiency

Article Abstract:

Many companies, particularly those in less developed countries, use bribery to limit the entry of new firms in the domestic market by influencing license policies. Such corrupt practices adversely affect allocation efficiency since more efficient firms are not allowed to offer their products and services. In addition, depriving more efficient companies from entering the market also strengthens the monopolistic structure of inefficient companies.
