It's better being an economist, but don't tell anyone
Article Abstract:
There are problems facing new Ph.D.s, who often work for lower salaries and position than they had expected. Economists are better off than most Ph.D. graduates, though physicists and mathematicians may have more skills of an abstract nature. Students are less likely to see economics as intellectually exciting, and economists may be more likely to move to other fields such as business or law if market conditions worsen. Economists can also work outside research, and business school salaries are higher than those of science and arts faculties.

Are your wages set in Beijing?
Article Abstract:
The study examines the threat that, whatever trade with less-developed countries did earlier, it will have bad effects on less-skilled Americans and western Europeans in the future. This will occur as India, China, Indonesia and others start playing greater roles in the global economy. The facts regarding the declines of less-skilled workers in developed countries and the enhancement in manufacturing exports of the less-developed countries are also discussed.
