Joint communique of twenty-ninth ASEAN ministerial meeting: Jakarta, Indonesia, 20-21 July 1996
Article Abstract:
A joint communique of the 29th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign minister's meeting, held at Jakarta from July 20-21, 1996, noted the achievements of the Fifth ASEAN Summit. The foreign ministers noted the economic progress in relation to implementation of ASEAN Free Trade Area. Issues related to Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, elevation of functional cooperation, and an ASEAN common time zone were also discussed. The inaugural Asia-Europe Meeting held in Bangkok, cooperation with dialogue partners, ASEAN-Mekong basin development were issues discussed on the external front.

Ninth general meeting of the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council San Francisco, 23-25 September 1992

The Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) held its ninth general meeting from Sep 23-25, 1992 in San Francisco, CA. The meeting was convened simultaneous with the precedence of regional economics over military alliances. The PECC foresees a future built on open economic integration. Such an integration would require the removal of industrial barriers, the application of GATT to trade and investment, international commercial access to other economies, liberalization and the promotion of policies to support regional development.

The fourth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting was held from Sep 10-11, 1992 in Bangkok, Thailand. Participating countries discussed the development of the APEC. The ASEAN Secretariat, the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council and the South Pacific Forum observed the conference proceedings. Regional economic trends and issues, Uruguay Round and trade liberalization and future plans for the APEC were among the topics discussed during the meeting.
