Jordan: benefits from oil-for-goods deal
Article Abstract:
The UN's oil-for-goods deal has been beneficial for Jordanian companies and a boost to the country's dismal economy. Jordan won more than a third of the contracts for food and medicine exports to Iraq. Of the 122 contracts awarded, Jordanian businesses won 42, including contracts for food, detergents, vegetable oils and $35 million worth of pharmaceutical products. The contracts are under the oil-for-goods deal which allows Iraq to ship $2 billion in oil to foreign markets every six months in exchange for food and medicine imports.
