Labor market flows over the business cycle: an asymmetric hiring cost explanation
Article Abstract:
Recent research has challenged conventional business cycle explanations for patterns of hiring during periods of economic recession. It is argued that an asymmetrical development of hiring costs prompts employers to hire unemployed people, rather than those already in employment, during a recession. This explains why the flow from unemployment to employment tends to rise during a recession. It is more profitable to hire from unemployment than from employment during recessions, as the unemployment have higher expected productivity than the employed.

Dependent independence from a labor law perspective
Article Abstract:
Recent research has assessed the elements of German labour law which offer flexible solutions to obtain information and consultation for employees' representatives. Particular attention has been given to how these elements could serve as an example for contractual arrangements representing the employees of dependent contractors or for arrangements between the various members of a network. The research has highlighted the dangers associated with an isolated labour law perspective.

A rational-actor perspective on the origin of liturgies in Ancient Greece
Article Abstract:
Liturgies, or services carried out to benefit the public, were a duty carried out by rich Athenians in Ancient Greece. They were seen as an honor and this could be linked to the introduction of a property qualification for Athenians seeking to hold office from 594 who were not part of the aristocracy. Self-interest encouraged cooperation, and political changes at a wider level effected the behavior of individuals. The way liturgies became a social norm is less clear.
