Laundry and dishwasher appliances
Article Abstract:
The UK market for laundry and dishwasher appliances grew by 28% in volume terms between 1993 and 1998. However, the increase in value was only 9% after accounting for inflation. The washing machine market does not look set to grow over the succeeding five years, but stronger growth is likely in the dishwasher market due to the low household penetration of 20% and the increasingly stronger base for replacement purchases. Prices look set to continue falling. Cross-European producers, including General Domestic Appliances and Electrolux, dominate the market. Electrical multiples, including Currys and Comet, dominate retailing.
