Lighting Their Darkness
Article Abstract:
Because of continued sluggish demand for electricity, the financial condition of several utility companies which have invested in nuclear power plant construction, worsens. Examples are mentioned. Some power companies are abandoning projects, but others feel they cannot afford to. Utility companies wish to pass on building costs to consumers in the form of higher rates, but this is illegal in most states. New programs being implemented by power companies to raise or save money are described. The government appears to be continuing its support of synthetic fuel production.
