Obituary: Ernest Mandel, 1923-1995
Article Abstract:
Ernest Mandel, who died July 20, 1995, is remembered for his publications on Marxist economics and his academic, economic and political commitments. Mandel was born April 5, 1923 in Frankfurt, Germany, and gained academic reputation in the 1960s and 1970s. His 1967 publication, 'An Introduction to Marxist Economic Theory,' was translated into 30 languages and sold more than 0.5 million copies. Mandel's academic work deserves reconsideration despite cases of ideological influence, which when controlled, is part of helpful economic contributions.
