Ales and stouts

Article Abstract:

The volume of stouts and ales sold in the UK market has fallen from 2.85 million lt in 1993 to an estimated 2.60 lt in 1998. The value market has declined more slowly from 5.58 million pounds sterling to 4.94 million pounds sterling (at 1992 prices) over the same period. The largest volume category is draught bitter and stout, with a market share of almost 80%. The UK's largest brewer is Scottish Courage, with leading brands including John Smith's and Yorkshire Bitter. It is expected that the market will fall in real terms in the short-term before stabilizing.
