Oman ports development: Gulf shipping entrepot?
Article Abstract:
Omani officials are hoping to diversify the nation's economy by taking advantage of the growing congestion in the Gulf. Port facilities are being planned throughout the country to provide alternative routes to the shipping lanes in the Straight of Hormuz. Plans include the expansion and adaptation of Mina Qaboos to handle containerized shipping, which would include converting berths to handle container carrying vessels, dredging, reclaiming land for cargo storage, lowering service charges and providing round-the-clock labor. A proposed port at Sohar is also discussed.

Oman Commercial Agencies Law amendments: effects on future agreements, dispute resolution
Article Abstract:
Amendments to Oman's Commercial Agencies Law are predicted to have a dramatic impact on future agency agreements and dispute resolution concerning these deals. The amendments removed the territorial exclusivity previously granted to commercial agents and eliminated their bargaining power when their power to block the registration of an alternative agent was removed. Agents' right to claim compensation remains. Issues related to the cancellation of agency agreements were also clarified.
