Research describing unplanned purchases by shoppers is presented. In particular the psychology of attention and browsing processes are examined with respect to a variety of latent demands.

Research describing methods of interpreting human consumer behavior is presented. In particular it is argued that too much emphasis is placed on animal research that overlooks the power of language to affect human activity.
