The Truce Is Over
Article Abstract:
Members of the French Communist party will continue sitting in the Socialist government of President Mitterrand, but are ending a six-month truce with the government on policy making. Unemployment is now at nine per cent and will likely grow. Mitterrand is committed to cutting over-staffing and modernizing French industry, which will cost jobs. The Communists demand full employment. The Socialists are in the majority.
