Realizing the power of strategic vision

Article Abstract:

Strategic vision is needed by corporate managers in steering their companies towards growth and success. Strategic vision involves planning and detailing what the company will look like in the future. Aside from establishing company goals, it also gives the company a sense of direction. Clarity, coherence, communications ability, consistency and flexibility makes for a successful vision. However, executive impatience, failure of imagination, failure to build consensus and solve short-term problems, obsolescence through success, lack of flexibility and failure to implement often leads to the failure of strategic vision.

Successful innovation through inter-company networks

Article Abstract:

The corporate growth strategy of the 1990's evolved from four stages: concentric growth, diversification, consolidation and concentration on core activities. In the light of emerging technologies, the goal of companies in the 1980s and 1990s is modernization, which would involve inter-company collaboration. The success of such cooperative ventures hinges on the willingness of companies to share costs and take risks.

De-layering myths and mezzanine management

Article Abstract:

The issues of corporate staffs, de-layering and downsizing are discussed. A warning is issued against the prevailing trend among companies of slimming down the organization, claiming that some layers have a useful and even essential role to play within an organization. The need for some practical guidance on whether, when and how far de-layering should be implemented is stressed.
