The areal dynamics of of the daily products retail trade: a case study from the market area of Vaasa, Finland
Article Abstract:
Supply and demand factors relating to the daily products industry are evaluated. It is shown that this segment of the retail industry is a self-balancing system that regulates its competitive features. Areal and temporal aspects of the supply factors used in the study include the number of outlets, floor space and general location. Demand is represented by the local population. The over-all system is likened to the competition for living space by organisms.

Investment and pricing strategies of competing firms: a computational approach
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze investment and pricing schemes under industrial competition. The study assumes that a dominant company faces competition from substitute industries or marginal firms. The firm must therefore maximize use of its limited resources over a period of time. Computerized numerical solutions for such problems are developed to address different industrial applications.
