Margaret Thatcher faces contentious forces in 1984. Thatcher's political intuition inhibits her ability to do what may be unpopular. Her cabinet is composed of young loyalists. The number of rebels in Parliament may grow. Thatcher may rely on her popularity with the people, instead of tackling tough issues.

The Thatcher Administration must deal with Argentine President Raul Alfonsin to settle the Falklands situation. Sovereignty is the most difficult issue. If Argentina could convince the Islanders to accept Argentine rule, the British could allow it.
