Roscher's Victorian views on financial development
Article Abstract:
Wilhelm Roscher's position as the founder of the historical school of economics financial development failed because it was predicated on the use of history to forecast future, long-term, economic trends. Although his theories appeared plausible, his failure to 'anticipate the proliferation of war debt, corporate takeover financing, consumer debt and other non-productive uses of credit' render it invalid in contemporary issues.
