Issues concerning the 2001 budget statements of Saudi ARabia and its implications for public debt are discussed. Particular attention is given to the provisions of the 2001 budget, including allocations for education, municipalities and health.

Tracking the kingdom's economy: 2001 budget, 2000 performance

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabian government spending came to SR203 bil in 2000, with revenues of SR248 bil, giving a SR45 bil surplus. For 2001, spending is forecast to rise 6% to SR215 bil, with spending on water up 23% and on health up 10%.

Saudi construction: economic reforms and future directions

There has been a significant improvement in construction activity in Saudi Arabia in 2000 as oil revenues have increased. The construction sector is now set to present good opportunities.
