Saudi Arabia's gas industry: capacity has to be expanded to keep up with demand

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia is managing the heightened domestic and foreign demand for natural gas by developing butane and methane production and constructing more production plants. The increased demand, caused by foreign dependence on natural gas, coupled with a growth in the Saudi population, has put a stress on the country's crude oil processing procedure, or master gas system. Expanding the gas processing and gathering system, the pipeline structures and the fractionation plants will not only keep up with the increased demand for gas, but also attract foreign investment and strengthen the economy.

Saudi Arabia revises visit visa procedure

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia has announced new rules for the issuing of visit visas by Saudi embassies or consulates. The simplified process will do away with the old system's delays. The new rules have eliminated two requirements: that the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh must approve and process all applications for visas and that approved applications must then be dispatched through Saudi diplomatic pouch to the embassy or consulate concerned. The new procedure will apply to foreigners from North and South America, Western Europe, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

Saudi Arabia's ratification of the New York Convention

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia has ratified the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Award. Foreign awards have been difficult to enforce there because Saudi law does not distinguish between international and domestic arbitration. Ratification of the New York Convention will begin to correct that situation, but much of the practical effect it will have depends on the interpretation given by the court, the Diwan Al Mazalem. Recognition and enforcement procedures and grounds for refusal are discussed.
