Singapore eliminates tariffs under CEPT scheme for AFTA
Article Abstract:
The Common Effective Preferential Tariff scheme is designed to create the ASEAN Free Trade Area by the year 2008 and its implementation starts Jan 1, 1993. Singapore has decided to reduce rates for 373 tariff lines to zero rate. Products included in the reduction of tariff rates include candy products, baked products, organic chemicals and garments. This elimination of tariff will allow the duty-free entry of 1 billion Singaporean dollars worth of ASEAN imports into Singapore. This brings to 5,713 the number of tariff lines which carry a zero rate for ASEAN imports.
