Small business optimism

Article Abstract:

Statistics on the economic status of small businesses for Sep. 1996 are presented. The Index of Small Business Optimism increased by 0.2 point in September, attaining 100.5 compared to September's 100.3. The number of overall jobs which has been increasing in 1996, decreased in September by 40,000 jobs. However, the small business sector reported an increase in employment during the third quarter. A positive note is a slow inflation rate with very few companies planning to increase prices.

Small business optimism

Article Abstract:

Small businesses are expecting their good performance in 1995 to continue for the first half of 1996 because of projected high capital spending, more employment opportunities, and low inflation rates. Despite the good economic outlook, small businesses are still concerned about pressing problems in the economy including taxes, regulation and red tape, quality of labor, financing and interest rates, inflation, and slow sales.

Article Abstract:

Statistics on the economic status of small businesses for Aug. 1996 are presented. The Index of Small Business Optimism increased by 0.8 point in August, attaining 100.3 compared to July's 99.5. However, the positive GDP statistics on general business did not appear for the small business sector except for employment generation. Consumption spending appeared to be the main source of economic strength for the second quarter.
