Vertical vs. horizontal integration: pre-emptive merging
Article Abstract:
A research effort analyzed the effects of the simultaneous feasibility of vertical and horizontal integration on equilibrium merger situations. Vertical mergers are shown to usually have a pre-emptive effect on horizontal mergers for either vertical or horizontal integration. Vertical mergers are also shown to be dominant outcomes. Vertical integration is done primarily to pre-empt the threat of a detrimental horizontal integration.
