Technological revolutions
Article Abstract:
A simple model of technological revolutions is developed to explore the interaction between technology and skills and offer an explanation for the changing nature of the interaction. Individuals with high cognitive ability had absolute gains from the impact of the revolution while those with high costs of learning had absolute losses. The wage-structure will also further evolve to ever-widening wage differentials. Reduced inequality is potentially possible in the future as an increasing number of workers are drawn to the skilled pool by learning externalities.
