Testing for absolute purchasing power parity
Article Abstract:
Purchasing power parity (PPP) is a status of equilibrium which balances the nominal exchange rate between two nations with the relative price of each nation's identical bundle of goods. Using 66 years of previously unexamined data on price levels, results find support for absolute PPP. Results indicate that absolute PPP may hold because deviations from absolute PPP are definite. This contradicts the findings of Salvatore.
