The changing sources of new mortgage debt
Article Abstract:
An appropriate analytical framework and model is developed to trace the composition of incremental mortgage borrowing the mid 1980s, using data from the Survey of Mortgage Lenders and the Bank of England. This analysis has highlighted the rapidity with which debt is accumulated and the speed with which remortgaging has assumed a pivotal role in the market.
