The gender earnings gap: learning from international comparisons

Article Abstract:

Wage differentials between male and female workers exist in all industrialized nations, but the size of the wage differentials varies according to country. The gender earnings gaps in Germany, the UK, the US, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Australia were studied. The research indicates that gender-based wage gaps in different countries are affected by gender-specific factors, such as gender differences in job qualifications, and by observed and unobserved wage inequality.
