The importance of lifetime jobs in the U.S. economy, revisited

Article Abstract:

Robert E. Hall's 1982 study on job tenure was analyzed. Hall concluded that men are in jobs with longer tenure than women and that tenure distributions of black workers and white workers are similar. Research on the biases of cross-sectional computations revealed different results than those obtained by Hall. White men were found to have a higher probability of lifetime employment than black men, and women had a higher probability of lifetime employment than originally estimated.

Article Abstract:

A comparison is made of two schools of consumer tastes, namely taste stability of Beckler-Stigler and the public finance school theory that wrong tastes exists which must be corrected. The theories are tested on educational demands. The Stigler-Becker theory is found to expand individual freedom. The possibility of social manipulation arises in the public finance theory.

Spatial Competition and Vertical Integration: Cement and Concrete Revisited

Article Abstract:

The concrete and cement industry competitive practices are examined. Vertical integration is found to be advantageous only for the first firms. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) tried to prevent vertical integration ineffectually. Vertical control persists. Policy should be directed at price flexibility.
